Phase 2: Determine Relative Advantage What problem would I like to address? What is an MLT? If you wanted to attract more people to the profession, what items would you highlight about being an MLT? Students often get bored with listening to me lecture about introductory information that they might already know. I would like to engage the students in this topic more. Does a technology-based method offer a solution with sufficient relative advantages? Yes, I believe it would. Allowing students to research on the internet items such as salary, job outlook, career options, and related videos will enable the students to find relevant and current information and will keep them actively engaged in the material.
Impact - Research on the internet will provided students with the opportunity to find current items related to the MLT career. Most libraries have limited information on this topic so the internet will open up a wide range of possiblities for the students.
Expense and Effort - Expenses would include the cost of using the internet. Effort on the instructor's part to find an available computer lab to allow students to do the work, to create a rubric for assessment, and to review students' work would be needed.
